According to the fun calendar I received last Christmas, March 28th is “Respect Your Cat Day.”

Anyone who has visited Rome the past 20 years has noticed how its cat population overtook Torre di Largo Argentino, the square which also boasts the remains of Pompey’s theater. It is now considered a tourist attraction. If you’re a cat lover, it’s magical. If you’re not (like me), it’s a quick stop-and-go.

Why? Not sure but maybe it’s my human arrogance. I expect pets to serve their masters (us). As everyone knows, cats live their own independent lives.

I will concede their gift for mouse-catching. That hidden radar power is primal and awe-inspiring. It takes you right back to the tigers in the jungle (their cousins). And I also concede that a cat’s feint air of arrogance–its innate sense of superiority, even elegance – feels vaguely Italian. Go figure.

I found this on-line article about cats which tells you much more about them than I ever could. Please enjoy. –BDC
