Christopher Rufo is a young journalist of Italian stock (Lazio region) who just became the hero of traditional Americans around the country. It only took a guest appearance on FOX News, where he reported on a perverse form of diversity training in federal agencies, to shut down the program known as CRT (Critical Race Theory).
Among those watching Rufo at the time were me…and Donald Trump.
Rufo (pictured) has pioneered the conservative reaction to the growing re-education of the American mind by the identity politics crowd. Using the tools of investigative journalism, which includes anonymous whistleblowers (the sacred cows of mainstream media), he has uncovered an official program targeting Euro-Americans within our government. We are not talking about “sensitivity” training to overcome subconscious bigotry, but a full-blown exploitation of White “guilt.” White employees are singled out for re-education in agencies like the Treasury Dept., the FBI, and the Sandia National Laboratories. Employees are apprised of the new concept of Critical Race Theory including White Privilege, White Guilt, and “racist” White values. Some are assigned essays to write, others asked to symbolically apologize for White “oppression” to co-workers of color. Outside consultants are hired at a cost of millions of dollars to stir this racial pot. That is all Trump had to hear.
Within days, Trump ordered the Office of Management & Budget to defund this “divisive, anti-American propaganda.” It is especially irksome when you consider that African Americans are over-presented on the federal payroll (19%) when they are only 13% of the population. Minorities, in general, make up 37% of federal employees – comparable to their population.
Rufo explains how he scooped this story: “I’m operating in a space where there’s no competition. The New York Times, the Washington Post, and the local papers — they’re all turning a blind eye, because they’re philosophically committed to the [antiracism] narrative. As a conservative journalist, it’s a wide-open field.”
But, Rufo’s monopoly does not come without risk. “Oh, I have had threats, harassment, vandalism, people coming after my wife and kids, you name it. But doesn’t principled dissent require great risk? There are two ways you can fight this: the first is by appealing to civil discourse, moderate pluralism and debate. That strategy has failed. They’ve made vile racist attacks against my wife, attempted to get her fired from Microsoft, and threatened sexual violence. They have even posted hateful messages to my 8-year-old son’s school Facebook page.” [Rufo’s wife is east Asian; they have two bi-racial children.]
Elsewhere in Washington D.C., the National Museum of African American Heritage & Culture, part of the Smithsonian, posted a series of anti-White charts (“Talking About Race”) on its website enumerating White values and how they perpetuate racism: rugged individualism, the nuclear family, a heavy focus on the history of European immigrants, the “protestant work ethic” where work comes before play, Christianity, wealth equating to self-worth. The list goes on to include how the American justice system is based on English common law, Americans are taught to “win at all costs” and always strive to be No. 1, and the value of being polite. The site also quoted White author Peggy McIntosh in saying: “White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, code books, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks.” When word got out of this racist tripe, the museum bid a hasty retreat and retracted it.
But, one must ask the question: why are these values solely White? There are plenty of intellectual African American conservatives preaching these very same solid values to their community but are drowned out by White elitists and opportunistic Black leaders. It is as though Black culture has degraded to such a point that the embarrassed Left wants to lower the river rather than raise the bridge. To them, it’s a lot easier to start a revolution than to restore the Black nuclear family – 70% of Black children are born out of wedlock. (For Whites it has risen, disturbingly, to 28%.)
Whether Rufo’s work or the museum’s retraction will survive the November elections remains to be seen. -JLM
