Today, let’s examine the intramural struggle among our paesani in government.
Ancient Romans often staged life and death battles in their arenas. Arena means “sand” in Latin, the stuff they spread on amphitheater floors to soak up the blood. There may be no blood lost in the bouts between our paesani, but clearly no love lost either. We have a real ideological difference within our community, reflecting the opposing sides of the nation. Three huge issues challenge the nation, ones that do not necessarily divide us by political party: The origin of the pandemic, the socialist agenda in Congress, and the cultural re-engineering of society. I’ll discuss the first two.
In early 2020, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo embraced the theory that Covid-19 accidentally escaped from Red China’s Wuhan Virology Lab. Dr. Anthony Fauci dismissed the theory, and the corporate media labeled it a baseless conspiracy. Even I didn’t buy into it, because the scientific community pointed out how unsanitary Chinese “wet markets” are – where live game is sold and slaughtered alongside domestic animals. The problem is that, after a full year, no evidence of the virus has been found in those animals, but the lab was indeed working on supercharging bat viruses.
As a result, Pompeo’s stock has gone up, while Fauci’s has gone down. Thousands of the doctor’s emails now reveal that he knew of the Wuhan lab’s dangerous work and had even funded some of it with U.S. taxpayer money. Worse, Dr. Fauci is on record in 2012 writing, “…the benefits of [enhanced virus] experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks.” (American Society for Microbiology, Oct, 2012). Moreover, Dr. Fauci has had perhaps too much faith in Chinese scientists and the Communist government. Pompeo, who also headed the CIA, recently called such faith in Chinese Communists as “crazy and naïve.” This week Fauci grudgingly accepted the possibility of a lab leak, but may not leave the arena standing, in light of his emails.
While at the State Dept., Pompeo tasked staffer Thomas DiNanno with investigating a possible Wuhan lab leak. To his surprise, DiNanno was opposed by the National Institutes of Health and his own State Dept. colleagues, who warned him that delving into the lab theory would “open a can of worms.” By January, 2021, the new Biden Administration shut the probe down. Yet, it certainly has opened that can of worms, with consequences that may ultimately upend corporate media and our scientific community, not to mention our relations with Red China.
House Republican Whip Steve Scalise opened the can further with a letter signed by over 200 colleagues to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi demanding that she order House committees to investigate the origin of the China Virus. Pelosi ignored his letter, believing that the “insurrection” of January 6th is more worthy of scrutiny than a virus that caused the deaths of 612,000 Americans – 208,000 of whom died during Biden’s term, so far. Red China seems to have lots of friends in high places.
Elsewhere, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV, orig: Mancini) has taken up the gladiator’s shield to stop his own party’s attack on the Constitution. House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Schumer thought they could run the Congressional arena without Republicans. But their luck ran out when the Congressional Parliamentarian ruled their legislative shortcuts illegal, and Manchin refused to collaborate. Like the ill-fated Spartacus, President Biden now finds his dream agenda – socialism disguised as ‘infrastructure’, free-for-all elections, cancellation of student debt, paid college for all, open borders, amnesty for illegals, Black reparations, DC statehood, and more – stuck between a Roman army (Manchin) and the sea (U.S. Constitution).
Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi continues to bar the public from Capitol Hill with a border fence, but bars few illegals at the Southern border. Both she and President Biden claim that the greatest threat to the Homeland is “White supremacists,” not ISIS, Al Qaeda, hackers, illegals flooding the border, or Leftist street violence. Even before January 6th, Pelosi declared that Republicans were “enemies of the state” because they questioned elections. Rep. Steve Scalise denounced the remarks then: “I was shot [and almost killed by a Bernie Sanders supporter] because of this kind of unhinged rhetoric.” And, it makes you wonder why Pelosi didn’t order “Praetorian Guard” protection (aka National Guard) when thousands of angry Republicans planned a rally near her office on January 6th.
So, how will this gladiatorial contest end? Hopefully, not in the old way: “Hail Caesar! We who are about to die, salute you!” -JLM
