House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is seeking immortality. At 80, this may be her last term in public office, her last chance to create a socialist republic the utopian Left dreams about: a cradle-to-grave federal safety net, couch-potato voting, endless Black reparations (equity), self-perpetuating White Guilt, open borders, and citizenship-for-all.
In the run-up to the 2020 elections, we were told that Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi were moderates who would rein in Socialist Bernie Sanders and Marxist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The end game was to get rid of Donald Trump, whatever the cost. That was accomplished, at least temporarily. But, to insure the end of Trumpism, America had to be changed radically – Senator Chuck Schumer promised that. Pelosi has fully embraced the mission. Last year, during Trump’s final months she managed to delay Covid relief funding for six months so he wouldn’t get credit for it. This week, she has promised to stall the $1.2 trillion bipartisan “infrastructure” bill until her utopian $3.5 trillion socialist dream bill is passed by both houses and signed by Biden. Is this a moderate paesana?
If Pelosi’s blackmail succeeds, it will be the final provocation in our divided republic. Over the past five years, there has been enough bad blood for any political observer to conclude that the off-year 2022 elections will be much like the 1860 election that brought us the Civil War. If Republicans gain control of the House and Senate the revenge will be awesome. If, instead, the Democrats increase their majorities in both chambers, the country will be totally transformed. As Louis XIV famously uttered, predicting the bloody French Revolution: “After me, the deluge!”
Is Nancy Pelosi a legislative wizard or a wrench in the gears? We know she cares little for our Italian American legacy – excusing, instead of condemning, the dumping of her hometown Baltimore’s Columbus statue into the harbor. But can she be so inimical to our values of hard work and sacrifice to impose Socialism and massive debt on the American people with her utopian bill? Beside a host of dreamy safety nets, the bill would deliver citizenship to millions of illegal aliens and guarantee decades of new chain migrations and encourage still more illegals from three continents.
The Census Bureau is already agog at finding the White majority at its lowest proportion ever at 58%. Of course, it never counts in 20 million White “Hispanics” – an absurd gimmick that denies us the more accurate 64% majority. (Imagine if Italian and French Americans were shifted to a “Latin” – which we are – category. Whites would fall to below half!) In just the past seven months of Biden’s tenure, one million illegals were “apprehended” crossing our open southern border and mostly released into the nation. Only God knows the number of “uncaught.” Are they in the census?
Pelosi is undoing the very nature of the American Dream. She pushed President Biden to flout a Supreme Court warning against allowing tenants to stop paying rent – while still requiring landlords to pay mortgages and real estate taxes. She has initiated two doomed impeachments, and arguably poisoned the body politic as much as Donald Trump – remember tearing up his State of the Union on national television or calling his mental health into question? She refuses to investigate the origin of the disastrous pandemic, preferring to obsess over January 6th and “White Supremacy.” If any reader can remind me of Nancy Pelosi’s nobler deeds, I welcome the balance.
If the Republicans sweep both houses in 2022, I imagine there will be a reckoning to parallel Pelosi’s divisive record. The utopian Left will be subjected to the same scorched-earth treatment they dished out. Biden might be impeached for violating immigration laws; the 25th Amendment might be invoked to relieve him for gross incompetence or dementia; the FBI might be ordered to testify on Hunter Biden’s damning laptops; an investigation of the pandemic might put Dr. Fauci on the chopping block for his funding of the Wuhan Lab; corporate/social media might be exposed for election interference; and race-baiting (CRT) education will certainly be reversed. What goes around comes around!
Will Democrats and the utopian Left stand idly by while Trumpism makes its return? They would surely take to the streets. But will those millions of moderates who voted for Biden/Harris solely because they hated Donald Trump join the bandwagon again? -JLM
