Our Honorees

Since its inception in 1987, the Italic Institute of America has bestowed its Silver Medallion Award to distinguished people of Italian heritage in various fields.

Institute honorees are individuals that have served their nation and represent the best of the Italic people.  No one is chosen for business networking opportunities or mere celebrity.

Here are just a few of the distinguished individuals whom the Institute has honored over the years:

Dr. Riccardo Giacconi
Giacconi Nobel Prize winning scientist. Project manager of the Hubbell Space Telescope Mission.

Dr. Rocco Petrone
Petrone Project Manager of NASA for the first Apollo moon landing.

Hon. Peter R. Rodino
Rodino U.S. Congressman (D-NJ) who chaired the Watergate Hearings.

Adm. Guido Venturoni
Venturoni Chairman of Italy’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Gen. Anthony Zinni
Zinni Retired four-star Marine General, author and statesman.

Franco Zeffirelli
Zeffirelli Director of Academy Award winning film “Romeo and Juliet” and numerous filmed Italian operas.

Congresswoman Marge Roukema (R-NJ)
Roukema Sponsor of 2001 resolution condemning "The Sopranos" and Hollywood stereotyping.

Catherine Bertini
Bertini Highest ranking woman at the United Nations, coordinator of massive humanitarian efforts.

Sonia Maino Gandhi
Gandhi Native of Torino, widow of slain Indian leader Rajiv Gandhi. Current leader of India’s Congress Party.

Joseph Barbera
Barbera Cartoonist (Flintstones, Scooby Doo, the Jetsons).
